Outreach &
Education
Our Vision
We imagine a Yukon where our residents are aware of the threats & challenges posed by climate change.
A Yukon where the land is treated with respect and action is taken to conserve our ecosystems & wildlife.
A Yukon where older and younger generations alike foster an appreciation for nature and are able to get outside to connect with it.
This vision supports our work in educating Yukoners on conservation issues and engaging in outreach efforts to keep sustainability top of mind for local residents and visitors alike.
Our Goals
Education
Organize Outdoor Events
Give visitors & residents the opportunity to get outside and connect with nature, history, and art through workshops & events.
Provide Educational Hiking Programs
Educate on natural and cultural history in the Yukon through outreach and free guided hikes offered at Kwanlin (Miles Canyon) throughout the summer.
Spread Awareness on Issues
Utilize our long-standing reputation as the Yukon’s only local conservation non-profit to engage with the public and stakeholders on issues we believe are important.
Outreach
Promote Cultural Resurgence
Work with Yukon First Nations to engage in & support efforts towards land sovereignty and appropriate involvement & consultation in land use planning.
Campaign for Systemic Change
Advocate for the transition from the Yukon’s outdated and insufficiently regulated environmental practices towards a system that prioritizes ecosystems & wildlife populations.
Partner with Local Organizations
Collaborate with partners and join resources to build towards sustainable solutions & actions, such as through nature-based urban planning techniques or national-scale protection campaigns.
Current Initiatives
Created at the Canyon 2024
Created at the Canyon is the Yukon Conservation Society’s annual art-in-nature event. Now in its 13th year running, the event supports local artists while encouraging locals to engage with nature and conservation themes.
Guided Hikes Program
We offer free-guided hikes and other special events and programming at Kwanlin (Miles Canyon). The program promotes conservation and knowledge of Yukon history, art, and landscapes!
